So what I know for sure is that Boss Moms have a LOT going on. From managing a home to leading individuals or teams, our list of things to do is never-ending. We are constantly being asked for things and it can often feel like we’re always busy around the clock.
Well, I want to share a quick and easy tip that I’ve found to be helpful to manage this issue: Create time boundaries and stick to them. For example, let your team know that you’ll review emails first thing in the morning, say 9-10 am, and then right before ending the workday. By sharing this boundary publicly, it lets others know when they can expect to receive a response from you. Similarly, I let people know when I’m out of pocket for work-related issues. For example, dinner time was a boundary I did not want to be crossed. So, I let people know that generally speaking, I’m unavailable from 6-8 p.m.
That’s it! It’s not rocket science and is fairly simple to do. Think about those times that you absolutely want to protect for something important to you. Then, let the world know it! I go so far as to put these on my calendar so that I have a visual reminder of protected time.
But the magic is maintaining and protecting the boundary at all costs. That part is up to you. Pro tip: I place 30-minute “hold for sanity” appointments on my calendar on days I predict will be nutty. That way I’ll hold a small window within those intense days to breathe. Trust me, you’ll thank me later!
Don’t forget to share this series with the Boss Moms in your life!
