I come across many well-respected experts transitioning into new, highly visible roles. They struggled with understanding how to function as a leader, they weren't sure how to delegate work, communicate effectively, and ultimately did not understand their unique way of leading. They enter these amazing roles and are expected to hit the ground running and figure it all out with little to no support.
I followed this advice at first, but it was like using my left hand to write (and I'm a righty!). I became nervous about making decisions and was uncertain about the right communications approach. It was like I lost my "sauce!"
After working at universities like Columbia and Marquette for almost 10 years, I shifted my career to the corporate sector. When I became a corporate executive, I faced my own dilemma around leading authentically without a roadmap.
